2015 Respite - Malcolm Hooper  2015 Respite - Darts with Eric Bristow  2015 Respite - Jaks

One of the key aims of our Respite Break, in addition to providing members and families with a well deserved break, is to provide some "Face to Face" information and support.

Another successful Respite Break - Well, that's what our members said!

Butlins made a change to the week of our respite break - they changed it to an adult themed week. However, under the circumstances we had another successful respite. Similar to last year we had a number of new families attending, which was nice to see, along with the families who try to attend regularly.

2013

The 2013 AGM  Activities at the 2013 respite break  Activities at the 2013 respite break

Respite 2013 was another very successful one - from our point of view, one of the best we can remember. We had a large number of first-time attendees, and it was very nice to meet them and their families, along with the "regulars".

For the first time ever, all the events, activities and sessions were overbooked - apologies to anyone who missed out this year.

2012

This years' 13th respite break was once again a great success

We had 267 people attending - 79 of these were children. 77% of attendees took part in the activities on site. Of those who completed our evaluation questionnaire, 100% said they enjoyed the respite break and said it made a positive difference to their everyday lives.

The entertainment, belly dancer, magician and live music on the Wednesday night (this years' theme was "Ancient Rome") were enjoyed by all.

We rely entirely on voluntary donations to fund the respite break - 72% said they could not afford to attend the respite without financial support from the NGVFA. Funding was achieved from a number of organisations, charities and trusts (listed below) and we secured funding for all those who applied for help.

A big Thank You to the following:

  • The ABF Soldiers Charity
  • Poppyscotland
  • RAF Benevolent Fund
  • Royal British Legion

Eric Bristow was again a great draw and as always the banter was very good. He played 29 games, had a few beers and was his happy relaxed self... He lost only one game. Who won that one game then? "Say no more."

We had new champions at the NGVFA doubles competition - Gary Williams & Tam Edmondson Congratulations! Well done! Guys & Girls, Who will win next year (I suppose we will have to have another darts competition next year) Ha!-Ha!
